Careers at TailWerks

Help pet businesses grow. Keep getting better at what you do.

TailWerks builds measurable growth systems for local pet businesses: veterinary clinics, groomers, daycares, trainers, and boarding. We are a small remote team across account management, paid ads, SEO, web, content, and operations. If you take your craft seriously and want to keep improving it, read on.

Our mission

Help good pet businesses grow with more clarity and less waste.

Our mission is to build measurable growth systems for local pet industry businesses. We help clinics, daycares, groomers, trainers, and boarding facilities turn marketing into more calls, bookings, and revenue, and we want every client to see what is working, understand what happens next, and trust the work behind the report.

Every role contributes to that. The person managing a client relationship, checking conversion tracking, improving a page, writing content, reviewing campaign data, or keeping a project on track is helping a pet business serve more people and animals.

A note from Kyle StarkeyFounder, TailWerks

TailWerks was built around a simple idea: clients deserve work that can be explained, measured, and improved.

We are not looking for people who already know everything. We are looking for people who care about doing better work, who ask when something is unclear, and who take responsibility for what happens next.

The team is lean, so your work will be visible. So will your judgment, your communication, and your follow-through. That creates responsibility. It also creates room to learn, improve systems, and make a real contribution.

What we look for in everyone

You don’t have to be the best at what you do today. You do need to care about getting there.

We do not expect perfection, and we do not expect you to know every tool, solve every problem alone, or be available every hour of the day. We do expect ambition about your craft and steady effort to improve it. That looks like:

Learning on purpose

You study the work, learn the tools, and pay attention to what good looks like.

Asking useful questions

You work out the goal, the constraints, and the definition of done before you start.

Using feedback

Use feedback to make the next version better.

Improving over time

Your work should need less correction as you go, and show better judgment, speed, and usefulness.

Bringing proof

You verify the result instead of assuming the task worked because a box was checked.

Saying so early

If a commitment is at risk, you say it before it becomes a surprise and reset the plan honestly.

Role-specific skill still matters. A Google Ads role requires Google Ads skill, a development role requires technical ability, an account role requires strong client communication. Caring about improvement is not a substitute for the requirements of the job. It is what helps a capable person become excellent.

Core values

Seven things we hold everyone to.

These are the standards the whole team works to, including the founder. They come up in feedback, in reviews, and in how we decide who we keep working with.

  1. Own It

Take responsibility for your work, mistakes, communication, and outcomes. When something goes wrong on an account, work the fix, even when it started on the client’s side, instead of stopping at whose fault it was.

  2. Over Communicate

Share progress, raise blockers, and flag delays before they become surprises. Work the client is paying for is not finished until the client knows it happened and what it changed.

  3. Understand Before Doing

Understand the purpose, desired outcome, and client context before executing. Know why we are doing it, what it is supposed to benefit, and which KPI it is supposed to move.

  4. Checked In

Be present during agreed working hours, respond promptly, show up prepared, and keep ClickUp current. Show up and put the time in, with the work in front of you and not a dozen other things running in the background.

  5. Results Over Activity

Being busy is not the goal. Work should create growth, retention, clarity, quality, or leverage. Analysis matters when it leads to work that gets done. Thinking about the work is not a substitute for doing it.

  6. Only Client Energy

Make every client feel that their work matters through proactive communication, reviewed deliverables, and clean handoffs. Clients should feel we are on top of things and already thinking about what comes next for them, not hearing “great” and moving on.

  7. Talk Is Cheap

Follow through, produce visible proof, and communicate honestly when a commitment is at risk. No excuses, no passing the blame, no promises you cannot keep.

Working at TailWerks

Clear work, visible ownership.

ClickUp is the source of truth

Active work lives there with an owner, a date, and its current status, so nobody is left guessing where things stand.

Direct communication

We would rather hear bad news early than discover it late. If you are stuck, say what is blocking you. If a brief is unclear, ask. If you made a mistake, own it and help correct it.

Cross-functional client work

Paid ads, SEO, web, creative, account management, and operations all affect one another. Give the next person enough context to act without guessing, and stay aware of how your work lands for the client.

Reviewed, verifiable quality

Client-facing work is reviewed before delivery. Data has to be accurate, changes get documented and tested. AI helps us move faster, and a person is always responsible for checking the result.

Agreed availability, not constant availability

Schedules depend on the role and your written agreement. During your working window, be reachable and keep your status current. Life happens; communicate early and handle it responsibly. This is not an always-on job.

See how the work moves

TailWerks is a distributed team. Most of the work happens through clear briefs, focused execution, documented handoffs, review, and follow-through. We ask questions, check the result, and connect the work back to what the client is trying to accomplish.

What you can expect from us

  • Clear responsibilities, KPIs, and examples of good work
  • Direct, respectful feedback before issues become patterns
  • Tools, SOPs, and training intended to make the work better
  • Supervised work and review during onboarding
  • A path to more responsibility based on performance, ownership, judgment, and team impact
  • Flexibility handled like adults, through clear communication and the terms of your role

Pay, benefits, leave, equipment, and classification are set per role and stated on each job page and in your written agreement. Not every role has the same terms.

Hiring process

What happens after you apply.

The exact steps can vary by role, and the job page will say so before you are asked to do anything extra. The standard process:

  1. Application review

We review your intro video, relevant experience, work samples where they apply, availability, and schedule fit.

  2. Initial interview

A conversation about the role, your experience, how you work, and whether the expectations fit both sides.

  3. Written offer

Role terms and compensation are approved before an offer goes out, and the offer is in writing.

  4. Onboarding

Tool access, role documentation, SOPs, supervised work, and clear first-month expectations.

The intro video

Every application includes a 2 to 3 minute video. Phone camera is fine. Cover three things:

  1. Your relevant experience.
  2. The metrics you think matter most for the role.
  3. What you do to improve these KPIs.

Applications without the video are incomplete and will not move to review. If you need an alternative format for accessibility reasons, say so in the form and we will arrange one. Allow 2 to 5 days for review. Only candidates selected for an interview are contacted.

Questions

Before you apply.

Practical answers. Check each job page for its specific requirements.

Are all the roles listed actually open?

Yes. Every role on this page is accepting applications. If a role is not listed, we are not hiring for it right now.

Is TailWerks remote?

Yes. Location eligibility, time-zone overlap, and schedule requirements are stated on each job page, and they can differ by role.

Do I need pet-industry experience?

It can help, and each role has its own requirements. Relevant local-service or agency experience is often just as useful. Check the job page.

Do I need to know every tool you use?

No. You need the core skills for the role and the ability to learn the systems used in the work. Each listing separates required experience from skills you can pick up after hiring.

Do you use AI?

Yes, for drafting, research, quality checks, analysis, and automation. AI output is reviewed. People stay responsible for accuracy, judgment, client context, and the final result.

What are the pay and benefits?

Compensation, classification, benefits eligibility, leave, equipment, and tax treatment vary by role, location, and written agreement. Confirmed terms are published on each open job page rather than promised here.

What if my role is not listed?

Then we are not hiring for it right now. The list changes as the team grows, so check back.
